BOATS ON THE OCEAN
Ethan Cobb from the 17/18 Edition
The boats that drift on the ocean
I sometimes wonder
how do they not clash?
Even if they travel the same path
they pass each other everyday
and still do not hit.
But what happens when they do hit?
Do the ships merely bump into each other,
and cause nothing more than a fright,
Or do they destroy one another,
in a spectacular fashion,
only to mundanely sink below the murky blue waters,
Forgotten only to man.
As for the next day, more boats sail over
without checking for a demolished ship below
as for the ships above are only looking ahead,
and miss the elegant destruction beneath them.
But what if the ships crash
due to a tremendous storm.
Neither vessel wants to strike,
but in the end they both are forced to perish.
So when those ships do crash,
and descend to the tan ocean floor,
they are not completely forgotten.
For they are now meant for the fish.
A habitat created from destruction
in which the ocean life only sees as home.
It is a death in which only the surrounding species
may benefit.
A death that is hidden only to the ignorant ships sailing above.
So the wooden creations will continue to pass by,
day after day,
night after night,
Clashing over and over.
But one day
the ships will no longer sail the dark blue waters
and the only trace of existence shall be a reef,
a graveyard teeming with life.
